About Me

Hi I’m Susan – caring for my mother while she lived with dementia for 12 years inspired me to co-create The Age-Well Project platform. The book of the same name became a bestseller! I qualified as a health coach to help people age well. I then spent a gruelling year studying for an advanced coaching qualification with American neuroscientist Dr Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer’s, so I can help you reduce your dementia risk.

And now: the unexpected benefit has been I feel better than ever: stronger, clear headed and more confident that I’m doing my best for my brain. I’ve gained more energy, a stable weight, restful sleep, great skin and mental clarity. Want some of that? I offer bespoke, one-to-one coaching and courses which will transform your health.

The Power Decade: how to thrive after Menopause – my new book is published by Headline on April 27th 2023 and I can’t wait to share it with you! In this book I coach you through the preventative strategies you need to make the best of your health post-menopause. It’s for you if you’re in your fifties or sixties, ready to prioritise your health, your wellbeing and your future.

Testimonials

I was so confused by all the conflicting health information out there. Susan has helped me find a path through it and I feel terrific, despite getting on a bit! Her advice is simple, practical and do-able. I’ve found it really easy to make my life ‘Age Well’.

Helen, Sydney

The talk was so interesting and Susan’s simple way of explaining things was really helpful as I won’t forget the facts! We do practise a lot of the things she mentioned but I will certainly make more changes now. I’ve started reading her book as well. All fascinating.

Looking back on a wonderful summer break that nour Looking back on a wonderful summer break that nourished body, brain and soul!

We’ve been to Vietnam to be reunited with elder daughter who’s currently working in Australia, and to have an adventure together. Vietnam’s the most beautiful country, full of the loveliest, most resilient people, stunning scenery and delicious food.

I’ve returned to my desk this morning with a brain full of happy memories. New experiences stimulate neurogenesis, the production of new brain cells, so I’ve given my brain a great work out - and lots of rest too, of course.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer (or winter, Down Under) and are ready for what the new season brings

For me, a ‘big life’ post-menopause means the For me, a ‘big life’ post-menopause means the opportunity to be creative, to be with family and friends, to travel, to work, to be curious and to learn.

What does it mean to you? Let me know!

I wrote The Power Decade: How to Thrive after Menopause because there are amazing adventures to be had post-menopause but, as a health coach, I know that the foundation for them is the best-possible physical and mental health.

There’s no plan B and no one is coming to save us! This isn’t a negative, it’s an incredible opportunity to live the ‘big life’ we want to live.

And thanks to Mrs Maisel for the audio - inspiring!

Fat is our friend for health post-menopause – and Fat is our friend for health post-menopause - and better cognition! The importance of consuming fat - and moving on from the ‘low fat everything’ narrative so many post-menopausal women grew up with. Research shows that lifestyle factors can reduce o Research shows that lifestyle factors can reduce our dementia risk by 40%. 3 ways to start :

1️⃣ Treat sleep like a hobby you’re passionate about. During deep sleep our brains go into housekeeping mode, ‘sweeping out’ toxins and the amyloid build up linked to increased dementia risk

2️⃣ Dance: no other activity brings together physical cognitive and social activity in the same way.Being bad is good - it means your brain is working harder to keep up with the music and steps!

3️⃣ Find your purpose - people with purpose live longer, healthier lives with better cognition.

Which one of these appeals to you most? Let me know!

Couldn’t resist this audio! Do think about ord Couldn’t resist this audio!

Do think about ordering The Power Decade (if you haven’t already…) it’s a comprehensive guide to women’s wellness in our 50s and 60s, focussing on how we can support our health post-menopause.

Midlife and way beyond is a time of exploration, freedom and expansion. There are huge positives to be found post-menopause: it’s time to create the adventures - large and small – that we want in our lives.

BUT – and there is a but - these adventures need to be built on a foundation of good health. The decade after the menopause transition, from our 50s to 60s, is the most important for women’s wellness. Here’s why: the average woman experiences menopause at the age of 51 and, statistically, the chronic conditions of ageing, like osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dementia may take root by 65. That gives us a window of opportunity to nurture our bodies and brains.

How to do that? It’s all in the book!
